Religious Education

Our religious education program (RE) seeks to be a place of religious exploration, where all kids can form a strong sense of self-identity, compassion, social justice, and a connection to the natural world.

Here’s a little bit about us:

RE is a place where kids can feel respected and safe to be themselves.

Our RE classes meet during the Sunday morning service. Most Sundays, kids join their parents in the Sanctuary for the beginning of the service. After the Story for All Ages, they proceed downstairs together for RE.

We offer nursery care for those age five and under. Our main classroom does not separate children by age, allowing them to freely interact with kids and adults of all ages.

We use play-based learning through which kids and adults are encouraged to live and model Unitarian Universalist values in the ways they interact to each other.

We emphasize building relationships over instruction.

We model the basics of non-violent communication in the RE classroom and in the nursery.

Our program content is based on the seven Unitarian Universalist principles:

  • Each and every person is important.
  • All people should be treated fairly and kindly.
  • We accept one another and keep learning together.
  • Each person must be free to search for what is true.
  • All people should have a vote about things that concern them.
  • We work for a peaceful, fair, and free world.
  • We care for our planet Earth, the home of all living things.
