General Assembly (GA) is the annual meeting of our Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). Attendees worship, witness, learn, connect, and make policy for the Association through democratic process. Anyone may register and attend GA – members, friends, all!  Annually certified congregations may send voting delegates.  GA 2020 is now a virtual event.

 About UUA Virtual GA 2020

From the UUCSC GA planning group – Jean Bowen, Mary Alice Kimball, Sky Kimball, Linda Whyte Burrell and Betsy Dalton

The Unitarian Universalist Association will host this year’s General Assembly (GA) virtually. Instead of being with thousands of UUs in Providence, RI this year, we will be together online.  No, it isn’t the same – but it is the way we are this year.  The UUA GA 2020 Planning Committee has been challenged to reorganize this massive event online to ensure that you are able to connect, to learn, and to become “Rooted, Inspired and Ready!”

“This year, while we’re all staying safe in the pandemic, General Assembly needs to be a virtual event.  While this means we won’t be attending in person, we will feel fully the sense of love and community that are so much a part of our shared UU experience.  This will go a long way to making this event feel more natural.” – Sky Kimball

Our Congregation’s planning group for GA encourages you to register and take advantage of this great opportunity.  The workshops you can attend offer information and training that include areas of interest for RE parents, Board members, Social Justice issues, fundraising and worship.  Additionally, attending GA workshops is a great way to get to know our larger UU community, and to get inspired by learning how other UUs do things.

When I attended the General Assembly I was impressed with the number of UU’s in the world! The workshop selection was extensive, there was something there for everyone.  The lectures were so exciting and the enthusiasm in the rooms was palpable.” – Jean Bowen

The fee now is $150 for everyone to attend for all 4 days.  This new, lower fee reflects the decision to hold GA as a virtual event.  If you already registered and paid more, you should have received information about a refund, or about applying the funds to next year’s GA.  If you wish to have a scholarship through the UUCSC, you may request this of Rev. DL Helfer directly.  He will distribute these scholarships.  If you offered to volunteer at GA, the UUA planning committee has reduced the number of volunteers necessary to implement this virtual event.  However, UUA is still accepting volunteer applications, in case of additional needs or if they have volunteers who drop out.

Are you interested in attending GA as a delegate from UUCSC?  If so, please contact Mary Alice Kimball either by email at maryalice9@aol.com, or by phone at 203-733-5290.
