Worship Services

Love is at the center of everything we do at UUCSC.

On Sunday morning, our tranquil space comes to life upstairs, downstairs, and outside.

 UPSTAIRS
At 10am, a chime welcomes those in the Sanctuary to begin an hour of respite, drawing spiritual sustenance from spoken word, music, and silence. Our professional staff – Minister, Music Director, and Director of Religious Exploration – work together with the volunteer Worship Committee to weave a tapestry of wonder, reflection, and connection.

Our covenant
Love is the spirit of this congregation and service is its prayer.
This is our great covenant: to dwell together in peace,
to seek the truth in love, and to help one another.

We light our central chalice to symbolize the light in each of us as we deepen our spiritual journey through meditative readings, collective hymn singing, choral anthem, and a homily or sermon. We collectively share our joys and concerns, with those wishing to speak dropping a rock into a communal vessel of water. And we close the hour in a huge circle, hand in hand, singing ourselves out into the world. “Carry the flame of peace and love until we meet again.”

DOWNSTAIRS

Children and youth are welcome in all spaces at UUCSC. Also at 10am, our Religious Exploration (RE) program invites kids, babies, teens, caregivers, and other adults to gather in our colorful, cozy downstairs classrooms and/or outside on our lawn next to the Saugatucket River.

Signage at the entrance will indicate if children and youth are invited to begin in the Sanctuary or invited to begin in the lower level.

The same rituals are followed downstairs, lighting a central chalice and gathering to share our “roses, buds, and thorns.” This multi-generational sharing circle provides voice and affirmation to every member, as we talk about what is happening in our lives – the good (roses), the future (buds), and the hard things (thorns).

RE is staffed by a professional educator and two paid assistants, as well as numerous parent and adult volunteers from the congregation. Children and adults engage side-by-side in play, exploration of the natural world, and art-making, using the opportunity for deep engagement to live out our commitment to Unitarian Universalist values.

 EVERYWHERE

Upstairs, downstairs, and permeating out into the space around us, love truly is at the core of who we are at UUCSC. We’d love for you to join us! Find your way to engage. #UbeU at the #UU
